CRAZY FOR GRASSES
Grasses add so much interest to the garden with their color, texture and movement. They are very low maintenance and relatively pest free, even deer avoid them! Leave them during winter to provide interest, then cut them back in the spring and off they go. Once established they are mostly drought tolerant. With so many varieties to choose from you can easily from one to suit your site.
Cool Season Grasses
Cool season grasses start growing in early spring and continue while the temperatures remain cool and there is enough moisture. When temperatures rise they go into a summer dormancy, where they stop growing.
Warm Season Grasses
Warm season grasses do not begin to show growth until temperatures warm and so does the soil. As the weather gets hot and the moisture is limited they remain good looking.
